Emotional Tramps is a professional theatre company first established by Tim Yarrow as a venture which aimed to bring quality and affordable theatre to the small towns and villages of Scotland that were starved of the arts. After touring for 3 years in Scotland and completing his Bachelors Honours Degree in directing theatre, Tim has travelled to the opposite side of the world to continue his passion in the theatrical arts. After participating in the theatre scene here in Wellington for the past year, Tim and his wife Emma have brought Emotional Tramps back to existence with a new mission! The thriving theatre scene in Wellington provides a perfect opportunity for all artistic enthusiasts, young and old to express their talents for writing, designing and acting. Emotional Tramps aims to provide an opportunity for individuals interested in all areas of theatre to get involved and to encourage the creation of original and exciting new work.
"Our mission is to create theatre which is as diverse as it is engaging. Our shows aim is to create accessible theatre, which caters for all demographics. We wish not to be exclusive or pretentious in our approach, but just to focus on the quality of work and create shows that everyone can appreciate."
Emotional Tramps mission is to produce a variety of shows, for children and adults and to showcase a piece of original work for every season. With this in mind Emotional Tramps will be starting their season with The E n' B: A Comedy, a piece of original work from one of our own, Andrew Goddard.

The Tramps
Tim founded Emotional Tramps in 2005 while he was completing his Theatre bachelors honours degree at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. Emotional tramps began as a non-profit touring company thats aim was to bring quality affordable theatre to the bordering towns of Scotland that were starved of the arts. Tim's passion for theatre began when he went to performing arts school in London, where he was hand picked in his second year to join a professional acting company. From then on Tim acted for many years until he moved up to Edinburgh and decided to dedicate his time to honing his craft as a director. Tim is thrilled to be launching Emotional Tramps again here in Wellington with a new goal to not only tour theatre again, but also to produce exciting innovative work.
"Bringing Emotional Tramps to Wellington NZ is an exciting venture, which i believe will be well received in a community that is clearly passionate about the theatrical arts. I hope our company will be a platform for a variety of individuals whether their skills are costume design, writing or acting to showcase their talents. We aim to produce work that will get people talking about theatre again in a more critical and deeper way."
Andrew was born and raised in Wellington and took a shine to performing from an early age. Over the past few years Andrew has had the privilege of performing with a fantastic range of people in shows ranging from Shakespeare to the stage production of Blackadder. He met the Emotional Tramps team during the performance of Blackadder II: The Tudor Years where he played Edmund Blackadder. Andrew is a fantastic addition to the Emotional Tramps team, with his passion for New Writing being a major focus of Tramps' work. Andrew himself has also played with various forms of writing and has finally produced his first finished script - The Tragic Tale of the E'n'B: a Comedy - an existenitalist political satire which will be the Emotional Tramps' debut show.
"I firmly believe in the importance of bringing new writing to the company. New works are the lifeblood of theatre, they enable us to try new things and push boundaries within ourselves and in our audiences. I want us to be seen as vibrant and innovative. We can get some of the way by doing older works in new ways but we can't fulfil that goal without making our own work as well."
Emma first came on board with Emotional Tramps a couple years ago while she was completing her joint bachelors degree in Media and Marketing at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh. She joined, at first, as a freelance designer for various of their print works, then finally as their full time PR and Marketing Director. Emotional Tramps has been a great opportunity for Emma to express her interest in the arts and her passion for design. Although her focus has been more behind the scenes, assisting on previous projects like Wellington Repertory's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead have been a great learning curve. Emma has also dabbled in acting, having recently performed in the Kapital Kids production of Pinocchio.
"PR and Marketing for the theatre has been a dream come true wherein creativity and ingenuity is truly appreciated and welcomed. The Tramps team are a fantastic group of talented people and i am sure we will produce some wonderful shows that will really express what we believe theatre is all about. We aim to be innovative not only in our shows but the way we run and present our theatre company, which we hope will make us an exciting company to watch as well as work for."
Ange has acted since she was very young and it is her passion and joy. Her first professional show was at the age of nine when she performed in the Snow Queen at Downstage and she followed it up the next year in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat at the St. James. She trained at the Wellington Performing Arts Centre, completing a Diploma in Singing in 2007. Although a trained pastry-chef by day working at Tempt and Smith the Grocer, Ange maintains a busy professional acting career in both film and on stage - most recently in Stagecraft's Nosferatu and in Thin Air at the 2011 Wellington Fringe Festival. Recently, Ange has discovered a passion for Childrens' Theatre and is looking forward to taking on the responsibility of running this section for Emotional Tramps.
"I'm really excited about trying to produce Childrens' Theatre that is a little outside the normal. Unfortunately, shows for children can often be a little bland and unchallenging. What I'd really love to do is find a way of presenting some of the classic tales in a way that is true to their darker roots while still being family friendly and allowing everybody to have a truly immersive experience."
